Why is this pedestrian crossing island so small? It is dangerous and unfit for purpose. Has anyone from the design team actually tried to use it on a bike? Due to traffic flow during rush hour and during weekends this road is really challenging to cross. Please get yourselves on the bridge and actually try to use these crossings. Put yourselves in the position of the users.
Cyclists can barely fit on the traffic island it is ludicrous. It is a bike length long at the widest point with drop kerbs and tactile paving, this cannot be right? Is it temporary? It only hold about two bikes at a funny angle. Traffic flow is very high. I feel genuinely unsafe using it. You have to run to make it across the road safely. The crossings at either end of the bridge are difficult to negotiate during rush hour due to traffic flow. During less busy periods speeding vehicles mean you get stuck on the island waiting for a safe gap as they fly down the bridge. The crossing is a really terrible design. Pedestrians get stranded in the middle of the road regularly. Other pedestrians and cyclists have to wait until there is space for them on the island before starting to cross. I honestly think it might be safer to just cycle on the A-road and avoid this cycle path. How has such an expensive public project managed to make an existing cycle route less direct, with new hazards? Please review crossing provision at either end of the bridge.

The smallest splitter island at Newsham Roundabout changes width from an absolute minimum 2.5m to a maximum 3.8m, with a median width of 3m, based on the alignment of the roundabout and approach(es). Therefore it is considered there is sufficient width to cater for all types of users expected within the splitter island." This range is supported by the recommendations within Traffic Signs Manual and LTN 1/20.
