Overgrown Trees

Reported via desktop in the Trees category anonymously at 14:23, Saturday 3 May 2025

Sent to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7518749.

The tree is outside property 127 Waldegrave Road. It hasn't been trimmed in years (the council says it has because on the record it has been but they missed this tree when cutting others due to a car being in the way and not moving). It is such a nuisance. Birds drop copious amounts of poo EVERYWHERE. IT IS DISGUSTING AND IS A HEALTH HAZARD! Sticky leaves go everywhere and sap drips onto the paths and on to cars.

Updates

  • Unfortunately, the council have told me the tree isn’t due to be pruned for another couple of years. It was supposed to be pruned back in March 2023, but the contractors skipped it because someone hadn’t moved their car. The issue is, the courtesy signs asking people to move their cars were only put out the day before the work was meant to happen, so it’s no surprise people didn’t get a chance to act in time.

To make things worse, the contractor has clearly claimed the tree was pruned (how convenient!), but it definitely wasn’t. So now it’s basically my word against theirs. Meanwhile, the trees are still massively overgrown, and we’re left dealing with blocked light, falling debris, and bird poo everywhere. What a lovely environment to live in, and a great use of our council tax!

Really frustrating situation, and it feels like we're stuck unless the council decides to step in and actually deal with it properly.
