Investigating
Road repairs causing noise disturbance
Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 18:46, Monday 14 April 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7435112.
This stretch of road on Water Street, has been patched, repaired and become distorted over several months. The undulations created by the road subsidence, raised repairs, surface holes and variable surface as recorded in part under Reference report: ENQ251040559, generate noise levels of 70 - 80 db on a regular basis. This road noise created by the repairs and worn out road disturbs in an adverse way, particularly at night time, when sleeping becomes interrupted. This is a road used regularly by workers with trailers, delivery vans, horse boxes and farm machinery, where loose fittings and contents move around. If the road was level and well maintained this would not be a problem, however over the last few months this has given a significant noise nuisance.
Would you review the road in the context of this nuisance. I have noted as a reference other road repairs by OCC which have been reported on this site for example Council ref: 1018497 (52/54 New Street) and would appreciate if this noise nuisance can be dealt with in a similar way
Council ref: ENQ251045107

Having reviewed the area again, in addition to the poor pothole repairs, I would say that it appears the kerb threshold has been breached, which allows vehicles on to the grass bank. I think this became less of a kerb when a digger with tracks was used to clear out the waterfall sump, basically as it was muddy this has created a ramp, rather than a clear demarcation from the road. I image it needs a proper kerbstone installing. Although it is yet to be done, the area around the VAS was painted by OCC for kerbing so maybe this could be done at the same time?
