Traffic Light button auto cancels after some seconds

Reported in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 15:21, Fri 18 December 2015

Sent to Tower Hamlets Borough Council 7 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 731262.

The traffic light button on the cycle way here works when pressed, but auto cancels after a few seconds without the pedestrian lights turning green. It usually needs pressing about every twenty seconds, about three times, to make it activate the lights.

Updates

  • The crossing may have a presence detector for pedestrians. Whilst that could simply be broken, it may be that it has a narrow field of view. There is a crossing that I use that will reset like this if you stand too near the button, but if you move to a more central position within a few seconds, it will register your presence. The detectors often have a light which shows whether they are seeing anyone.

Note, though, that it is important to use the traffic lights category for problems like this, as all traffic light issues in London are handled by Transport for London, not the council, and FMS knows to send reports in the traffic lights category to TfL.
