Chesterton Road - Jesus Lock Zebra Crossing
Reported in the Street lighting category anonymously at 02:49, Mon 14 September 2009
Sent to Cambridgeshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 73103.
One of the floodlights which is supposed to illuminate the zebra crossing on Chesterton Road (between Jesus Lock bridge and Carlyle Road) is again not working. The light spends periods on, periods off, and periods flickering. The near-by streetlight, number 14, is also out.
I reported this problem in July. http://www.fixmystreet.com/ report/ 64774 The floodlight was working properly for a period in August but is now broken again. The streetlight has been out for much longer and has never been fixed.
I would like to suggest this crossing, which is an accident blackspot, is properly illuminated before the winter and more people use it during the hours of darkness.
I have written an article on these and related problems; this is available at:

I have received the following update:
Thank you for your email regarding the faulty lights on Chesterton Road, Cambridge. I have raised a works order for CC14 (ref: LA242054) and passed onto our contractors to rectify. However, with the other light at the zebra crossing could you please confirm which side of the road is the light situated on? Please can you confirm if it is on either the Carlysle Road side or the lock side. Once I have this information I can raise an order for the fault to be rectified.
I have replied to say the light is on the river-side of the crossing. To the right as you walk accross the crossing towards the river .

I raised this at the North Area Committee on the 12th of November.
County Councillor Kevin Wilkins agreed to take the matter up.

Despite the assurance from the council, which clearly referred to this fault, the problem has not been fixed.
I have made a video illustrating the it is available via:
