There is water coming out of a manhole cover & flowing across our driveway

Reported via desktop in the Flooding on Road category by Christine Ertl at 20:58, Tue 18 March 2025

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7300306.

I first reported this problem in July 2024. In September you claimed to have resolved it but you hadn't so I reported it again. You then claimed it was not your responsibility & I should contact Thames Water, which I did. Unlike you they came out the very next day to inspect the issue but they said it wasn't their responsibility either. They said the problem is caused by the blockage of underground drainage channels causing excess water to flow where it can, i.e. into the manhole & out the top. The water then flows across our driveway & this has been going on all winter. It has cut itself a stream bed in the gravel & is causing green slime to grow, Please will you come & look at it for yourself & if you still think it is the responsibility of Thames Water liaise with them yourself to rectify the problem. The exact location is outside Orchard Cottage & The Old School House.

Updates

  • State changed to: Investigating

Updated by Oxfordshire County Council at 20:58, Tue 18 March 2025

  • Thank you for your report. Our gully cleansing contractor has encountered difficulties in clearing the pipes to restore the drainage system’s functionality. The Oxfordshire County Council will now conduct additional investigations to determine the root cause of the drainage system failure and propose a solution. While we oversee highway drainage, it’s essential to consider other potential factors. These may include involvement from other service providers like Thames Water, or the issue could be related to a private ditch, stream, or culvert.
