Footpath steps eroded from Grand union canal Iron Trunk down to River Ouse Footpath, pedestrian safety risk - requires attention . refer to attached photo. Been like this for at least 6months. Reinforce with thick railway sleepers?

    The steps have deteriorated considerably since raising on 9March 2025-and additionally there are in places , (owing to recent strimming of plants/nettles etc) , exposed rusty 6 inch nails protruding from wooden edging - an even more serious concern & risk for pedestrians / cyclist users of the steps .

    Corrective action required .

  • Issue supported 2June byAmanda Marlow Councillor for Watling Ward . Paul Trendall -Mayor aware . Iron Trunk Aqueduct, a Scheduled Ancient Monument with Historic England, (carrying the Grand Union Canal over the River Great Ouse between Cosgrove and Wolverton) officially opened January 22, 1811, the World's first wide canal cast iron trough aqueduct.

    Also raised directly 10June2026 with : Anne Gardner-Aston -Director of Health & Safety , Linny Beaumont Regional Director E. Mids & Campbell Robb ,Chief Executive at Canal & River Trust- -as at 12 June nil responses .
