Abandoned vehicle
Reported in the Abandoned vehicles category anonymously at 20:47, Mon 23 November 2015
Sent to Barnet Borough Council 3 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 719847.
A large Yellow 'Iveco' van registration number GN58 AHF has been parked outside Ashburnham Court Daws Lane for at least three weeks without moving. It obstructs local and commuter parking and passing traffic during peak periods. It follows a pattern of abandoned trade vehicles in this area.

Vehicle still abandoned. Council notice removed. Can we have an update as local concerns increase.

Most councils don't receive or read updates.
Whilst I think it is bad that the council haven't provided any feedback, my guess is that either the owner has convinced them that they intend to use the vehicle in the future, or they are waiting for the tax to expire (it has a long time to go).
Councils have no power over long term parking, unless a controlled parking zone exists. Controlled parking zones require public consultations, and are best requested through your councillors. They may prove a mixed blessing.
Obstruction is strictly a matter for the police. It requires a level of judgement that is not delegated to the council.

I was grateful for Fix-My-Streets response (above) but disappointed that in some circumstances little or nothing can be done about 'abandoned' or long-stay parked vehicles. Parents of children at the local Jewish school for example have told me that they think of such vehicles left near or around sensitive sites as a security risk. The van seems to have now moved out of the area. Thanks again.

Fix my street, themselves, don't normally respond to posts, unless they are editing them for legal reasons. They do, however, encourage the public to respond.
It seems to me that security reasons are more a matter for the police. I don't think the council have any powers in that regard.
Although not explicitly defined in the law, "abandoned" has quite a narrow meaning, and implies a permanent situation in which the previous owner no longer makes any form of use of the vehicle.
