Trees far too high

There are trees by the road at the back of my house, that are now far too tall, I’ve lived here for over 20 years and they have never been cut back/ lowered, now they are far too tall they look dangerous and they block out any view that might be there. I know they were likely put there to maybe block sound from the road, but I’ve no idea why they would plant trees that would grow so tall in the first place. Please can you cut them down to a more acceptable height.
