Potential Dangerous exit

Reported via iOS in the Roads/highways category by Simon Nicholls at 15:36, Saturday 15 February 2025

Sent to Norfolk County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7139088.

Exiting our drive is getting significantly more difficult and potentially dangerous because of a) a significant increase in cyclists (regular and electric) riding on the pavement at speed b) electric scooters doing the same c) people walking their dogs on extending leads d) people allowing their children to cycle / run along the pavement at a distance where they are not in control of those children. Vision to the left is somewhat limited but markedly more so to the right. There is a very simple and easy solution which is to fix a mirror to the telephone pole opposite. We actually rang the Council to say we were happy to so supply and fit such but were told if we did it would be taken down by the Council. However carefully we exit the drive there remains a risk in the absence of having a second person to stand outside the curtilage to check for hazards. The mirror would also be of benefit to 166 and 166A when they exit. The problem has always existed but the risk is now significantly amplified by the use of electric powered transport (often of the kind recently seized by Norfolk Police). If the Council fix a mirror to the telephone pole it will significantly reduce the risk of potential injury to people.

Updates

  • Local authority say they do not put up mirrors and will take ones down place without authority. Someone will get hurt the way they cycle and electric scooter along the footpath illegally
