Lack of adequate speed limit signage

Reported via mobile in the Road signage category anonymously at 17:21, Friday 14 February 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7136087.

Howard Road BS6 from junction with Linden Rd to junction with Upper Cranbrook Rd AND Upper Cranbrook Rd . State of Rd surface : Howard Rd : Works by Gas and Water companies in the last few years requiring much patching of the road surface have almost totally obliterated while lines and warnings painted on this road including 20 mph limit sign. Speeding 30-40 mph is common during the day, when the road is used by drivers to avoid the traffic lights on Linden Rd/Coldharbour junction. Road layout : Howard Road goes downhill from the junction with Linden Rd, then the trajectory for the majority of traffic swings right into Upper Cranbrook Rd. as marked by a dotted thick white line across the junction with Howard Rd ( which continues but is much narrower from this point. Drivers should thus normally indicate if proceeding straight on down Howard Rd - frequent failure to do so has resulted in near misses with pedestrians, as without indication it is impossible to tell which way a vehicle will go. } Excessive speed of traffic in designated 20mph zone: Traffic commonly enters Upper Cranbrook Rd at junction with Howard Rd having gained speed on the downhill stretch of Howard Rd , and then increases impetus along Upper Cranbrook towards Coldharbour Rd . The first and only reminder of the 20mph limit is halfway down Upper Cranbrook – a small round sign on a lamppost on the right- hand side for the traffic - and easy to miss .. Dangers are: to children with and without parents crossing to make their way to local schools, to older people crossing to access shops, to drivers exit-ing and entering their driveways or parking spaces, and the whole situation have for months been exacerbated by building work to several properties with parking of large vans . . The 20-mph limit signing needs to be clearer, larger and more appropriately sited
