Faulty manhole cover

Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category by Colin McDonald at 01:57, Thursday 13 February 2025

Sent to Glasgow City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7127080.

I was told by residents who ran to my aid when i ran over this cover with my bike and it caused me to come off it causing injuries. They told me this was reported many months ago after another cyclist got injured and the best glasgow council then done was stick a cone on it ! The cone it seems keeps being hit by vehicles then moved and dumped by side of pavement, which means bikes and vehicles are unaware of the risk of injury/damage, residents told me they are sick of putting it back and are now giving up they have said. I am now thinking of taking legal action as residents told me its obvious glasgow council dont care. This serious negligence on the council's part thanks to my dented front wheel, grazes and bruising, lucky my helmet saved me from severe injury. Looking at the cover you would never know it's faulty umtil too late but it seems large vehicles going over it can sometimes cause one lid to stick up a good few inches and the other to drop and if a bike hits that, the rider goes over the handlebars. The manhole cover is in the road directly outside number 26 sandy road.

Updates

  • Nothing has been done to manhole cover even though it had been reported many times by locals last year and even this year. Glasgow council is useless - but they are happy to waste millions making the richer Byres Rd and Hillhead area/university area look good with new pavements, cycle lanes, planting areas with flowers, no vandalism, new manhole covers, newly tarred and spotless roads with cleaners picking up rubbish etc while nothing happens in other areas like Sandy Rd and those areas are are just left to rot under dog poo, no repairs, lack of bins and rubbish !
