Please could OCC visit Eastfield Lane in Whitchurch on Thames as a matter of urgency to assess the state of the adopted highway. The condition of the lane is atrocious and is a health and safety issue, particularly because many residents who live on the lane are elderly, visually impaired and have mobility issues. In addition, Eastfield Lane is the principal route providing access to the village primary school and pre-school. Carers and children have been encouraged to walk to the school, but the current situation is dangerous and unacceptable.
There are many significantly large, almost permanent, muddy puddles along the lane, some of which are almost 10m long, 2m across and almost possibly 20cm deep, or more. All the while, the road continues to deteriorate. Cars park almost continually along the lane during weekdays, forcing pedestrians, elderly and children alike, to weave there way along the lane through puddles and pot holes. The once attractive grass verges have been completely destroyed around the Eastfield House construction site, despite the valiant efforts of residents seeking to protect them.
Nearly all of this mayhem and misery has been caused by the redevelopment of Eastfield House, a major 2,000 sqm construction project by developer Zephyr X and J Guest being the contractor. Despite the many requests of neighbours and the Parish Council, they have given absolute minimal consideration to neighbours. The problem lies in the proper professional management of the site and a will to be considerate to neighbours and lane users (other than themselves).
