Dead bus destination board

Reported via desktop in the Bus stops category anonymously at 15:59, Sat 1 February 2025

Sent to Reading Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7069870.

This problem is located in Friar Street, Reading Berks RG1 at the teerminus bus stop for routes 28, 43 and 850. It is the terminus bus stop for all Henley-bound services and is outside the law courts entrance on south side of street. A new digital destination indicator display board was installed at the beginning pf 2025, (nothing here before). Ity had been dead and broken now for several weeks. The bus services are run by different companies, but the stops, shelters and display units are managed by Reading Borough Council, who contract their maintenance to another company. Stop refewrence code "FC"

Updates

  • The digital bus information board at this terminus bus stop in Reading, was installed at the beginning of January 2025, as part of the council overhaul of their entire bus info systems. It was dead one week later- this was reported as listed, but has still not been fixed.

  • I have been contacted by a bureaucrat from the local council, informing me that there was a 'power supply' issue to the bus shelter, because it is one of the kinds which have been supplied under contract by a huge megacorp. The official informed me that a request for repair had been made and now there was nothing more that could be done. Now another of these new digital information signs at a similar bus shelter in the local area is dead. #This has been reported also. It is sad that when services are privatised, which is okay usually, there do not appear to be any arrangements locally for ongoing maintenance.

  • I have seen no repair of these two digital information signs to date. Why does the council bother to put in a new system and then fail to put in place adequate arrangements for their ongoing maintenance?

  • There remains no news about the two dead digital signs hers in reading. At great expense after a government grant/loan, the old system was updated last year, which was overdue. But there has now been no arrangements made for the ongoing maintenance or repair of this shiny new system- so if a sign blows a fuse, it remains dead- for ever... At least the old system did get repaired when a problem occured. This whole matter is being taken to the Lead Councillor for Transport. The Buck must stop somewhere.

    State changed to: Fixed
