I am writing to report a significant traffic issue at the Kidlington roundabout. As a long-term resident of Kidlington since 2000, I have observed worsening traffic congestion, particularly during peak hours. At approximately 7:20 AM on weekday mornings (Monday to Friday, especially Tuesday to Thursday), the roundabout becomes severely congested, with traffic backing up all the way to Gosford School. The current infrastructure is unable to handle the volume of vehicles, causing major delays for commuters. While I appreciate the investment in pedestrian lights, it is concerning that traffic lights were not included to regulate vehicle flow. The lack of traffic signals at this key junction is the primary cause of excessive delays, as vehicles struggle to merge efficiently. A quick check on Google Maps during these peak hours will clearly show the severe congestion in the surrounding areas. I urge you to consider installing traffic lights at the roundabout to improve traffic flow and reduce delays. The current situation is unsustainable, and immediate action is needed to address this growing problem. Thank you for your time and attention to this matter. I look forward to your response.

Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention. To introduce any restriction on traffic, for example, speed limits, parking restrictions, prohibition of movements, we need to promote a Traffic Regulation Order. This is a process whereby an Order is drafted by our Legal Department, describing the proposed restriction. This will be advertised during a formal consultation process and comments invited. If no objections are received, the Order can be brought into operation with lining and signs on the ground. If there are objections, these will be reported at the appropriate Committee where a decision will be made taking into account levels of support and objections. We work this way with local Towns and Parishes who wish to promote such restrictions. The onus is on them to propose a scheme which suits their local needs and then we can act in an advisory capacity and carry out the required legal aspects. You may wish to take this up with your local Parish or Town Council who may be aware of other similar requests.
