The Road set up in Lockerbie is a disgrace and it is time something was done about the speed of drivers on the High Street,Bridge Street, Ashgrove Terrace leading to Victoria Road. Since the onset of traffic lights at the Factory Shop, Cars coming from Dumfries take a short cut along past the Post Box at St Brydes Terrace to Ashgrove Terrace at speed. Last Tuesday I3th October I was walking along near this area at 7.45a.m. in the morning when a driver in a small white van took the corner at speed near the Post Box he was going so fast he came over onto the other side of the road, I thought he was going to mount the pavement and I stopped. He then got out van further along the road and started calling me a ' F-----g old B----r have you a F----g problem' this was a large young man and it was a shock to an elderly person. I intend to get my car and try and get this persons number as clearly this could be a violent person. As for the High Street as a pensioner he cannot cross safely at the specified crossing sections. I would like the Councillors who said ' Conscientious Drivers will stop for you' well I have news for them -there is none. They come speeding down Bridge Street look right and if there is nothing coming they tear right down the Street and if you are the middle of crossing you have had it. It will be the old story, they will wait until someone is killed before anything is done. The disabled space at the Cumberland and the Library should be highlighted in Yellow regulation paint. At the Pet shop and Handyman Offices there should be double Yellow lines there. It is coming near Remembrance Day and we shall again have all the so called dignitaries gather at the War Memorial which is now used as a roundabout and nothing gets done about it. They put down expensive slabs and the drivers just run over them, its a disgrace. I would ask that speed signs are put up on the Ashgrove, St Byrdes Terrace area as the speed is frightening. A halt sign at the end of Bridge Street before you go onto High Street.

Nothing has been done and I see in the National Press that Councils are to scrap Lights,Road Markings and Pavements. Well Lockerbie is away ahead with its third world traffic system. I would like to meet the Elected member of the Council who stated when this system was set up ' Conscientious driver will stop for people crossing the street ' I have yet to meet any. It will be the old story they will wait until a person is killed. Also the speed of vehilcles are a disgrace and the war memorial is still being used as a roundabout. Disabled parking spaces have still not been highlighted in yellow.

The problems are still the same. The place where the public are supposed to cross is a disgrace, very few drivers stop for the public to cross and if one stops you are stuck in the middle of the crossing due to the arrogant drivers coming the other way drive right through. I would like to meet the Councillor who at the onset of all this stated ' Considerate drivers will stop for the people' well I state there are no considerate drivers. It is the old story they will wait until some poor soul is killed. Nothing else has been done regarding the highlighting of the disabled spaces or the War Memorial which is used as a roundabout.
