Area being extensively damaged
Reported in the Parks/landscapes category anonymously at 09:30, Fri 21 August 2009
Sent to Merton Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 70472.
The area of cannon hill common by the little lake is the subject of extensive damage by a daily crowd of fisherman. The area is always full of rubbish left behind by these people. It is very difficult to enjoy a walk by the lake, without the constant swing of fishing hooks past your head. Children are unable to feed the ducks without angry comments from fisherman.
It is a real shame that such a cruel sport (if you can call it that) is taking over this part of the common.
In general in the past year the area has been severely run down by these people leaving behind beer cans, cigarrete butts, damaging and removing wooden fence along the lake to gain access in order to fish.
Damaging lake borders with chairs and fishing equipment.
It is a real shame that such a beautiful park,it's currently allowed to deteriorate like that.Could the council do something about this.Perhaps limit fishing to a particular month, or ban it altogether?Maybe patrol the area more often?
