Large quantities of grain fly-tipped on corner of Frog La to St George's Rd & around Norman Arch by Central Library

Reported via desktop in the Rubbish (refuse and recycling) category anonymously at 18:05, Monday 27 January 2025

Sent to Bristol City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7042131.

For the last several years someone has been fly-tipping/littering 'agricultural-scale' quantities of grain below the Norway Maple at the Frog Lane/St George's Rd roundabout, and by the Norman Arch by Central Library. This is always done in the early morning when no-one can catch them at it, and frequently on Mondays. The grain appears to be dumped close to Listed Buildings in order to manufacture a feral pigeon population increase and guano health hazard, that property managers are compelled to employ guano contractors to remove. Feral pigeon guano constitutes a serious health hazard in terms of pathogens and mites that feed on it. The public and in particular, children of Bristol Cathedral Choir School who walk it into buildings on their feet. The guano damages buildings and makes fire escape routes unsafe. As the culprit is dumping commercial quantities of grain on working days and never remains at the scene, leaving feral pigeons to feast over the course of a day, the grain is likely dumped to increase profits of cleaning contractor firms. City Hall has CCTV cameras, therefore will be able to track and trace the culprit.

Updates

  • Large quantities of grain (likely over 3kgs in total) dumped again early morning of Monday24/02/2025 at the base of the lamp post to the College Square side of the Norman Arch, and below the Norway Maple on the small council car park between St George's Road and Frog Lane (photo of each attached). The (1) large quantities, (2) being dumped very early in the morning of a working day, (3) in commercial/civil (not residential or public park areas), confers a high probability the activity is not for a humanitarian interest in feral pigeons, but is a commercially-motivated investment in creating a work/income-flow for pest removal and guano decontamination from surrounding property management. Unfortunately it causes property damage and a health hazard from piles of parasite and pathogen-infested guano that gets trodden into buildings and the local school. At best this is surely criminal littering.
