Digging Lane too unsafe to use - again
Reported via desktop in the Pothole category anonymously at 10:25, Sat 25 January 2025
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7030547.
A few months ago you dug out the ditches on the marked corner to improve drainage and prevent flooding. That didn't work. For about 3 weeks after Christmas 2024 the whole road was flooded as the ditch just funnelled water from further up into the corner and it had nowhere to go after that. Now the water has subsided somewhat it has revealed some large, deep, unavoidable potholes and I for one will not be driving down that road till they are fixed properly. There may be more potholes lurking under the water that is still lying over parts of the road. You must hear this repeatedly, but why do you do a half hearted job of patching roads like Digging Lane and Oakesmere every year only to have the patches start disintegrating, usually within 12 months. Surely this must be more expensive than doing a proper job in the long run. This is the 5th year I've reported problems with this stretch of road and it's always the same.

Tried driving down the lane yesterday 5/2/25. The bend is still flooded and as I drove slowly through the water there was a substantial thump form a submerged pothole. From the feel of it it well exceeds the minimum requirements for repair. No damage done this time, but I won't be going back for a while.

Some effort appears to have been made to patch Digging Lane in the least 2 or 3 weeks, but this must be a record, the patches are already falling apart. In addition there must be 3 or 4 other potholes nearby that meet the requirements for repair but remain untouched.
