Tactile paving area

Reported via desktop in the Gully/Drainage category by David Simcox at 06:59, Mon 20 January 2025

Sent to Cheshire East Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 7003550.

The tactile paving in the town centre, a crucial aid for visually impaired pedestrians, is frequently obstructed. This recurring issue poses a significant safety risk, particularly in a busy area with high footfall. According to Cheshire East Council's Highway Safety Inspection Code of Practice (April 2021), safety inspections are intended to identify and prioritise the repair of defects that present an immediate danger or significant inconvenience to highway users, including vulnerable groups such as the visually impaired.

Given the importance of tactile paving for accessibility and the high volume of pedestrians reliant on it, I strongly urge the highways team to prioritise resolving this issue. Keeping these surfaces clear is essential for public safety and ensures compliance with the council’s commitment to maintaining a safe and accessible highway network.
