Ice is forming from Chew Moo down to Northwick and this is in B&NES

Reported via desktop in the Dangerous road surface (including ice, mud, spillage or debris) category anonymously at 11:04, Fri 17 January 2025 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Bath and North East Somerset Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6993763.

Serious issues of black ice on Upton Lane, from Chew Moo's down to the bottom (Northwick hamlet). I am a resident in Northwick. This past week there have been several accidents on the lane, last night was the most serious with a car going through a hedge at the right angled bend at the top, landing upside down. Then there is the issue of a really bad section of black ice further down too. Right by the hamlet. This year it is the worst it has ever been. There is no grit box. Cars are routinely crashing (this was reported on the BANES "Report it" site by another neighbour just after New Year) in this spot, cars struggle to make it up this steeper stretch and are often abandoned outside our house. Walking is treacherous, almost impossible. The spring at the corner of the Manor Farm turn-off is in constant flow and the water flows down the road all year round. Then further down, outside Yew Tree Farm, Bittern Barn and Lawrence Farm entrances the black ice is extensive. The drains are constantly blocked. I would like the council to look at the drainage situation down the entire lane, with particular focus on the spring that comes out onto the road at the Manor Farm turning which is the source of most of the water coming down past the houses of Northwick. A grit box needs to be provided at the same turning. There used to be one there but it was removed. And anything else that can be done to improve the overwater situation that is constant down the lane.

  • The worst section of the lane is at the right angle bend - where the car went over the edge and further down the hill where the hamlet of Northwick is located. Just up the road from Yew Tree Farm, from the turning into Manor Farm and down through Northwick. The water comes from a spring and drains that fill up easily with debris being washed down. Despite best efforts to constantly clear the drains. The verge has also overgrown not helping. Water constantly flows across the road and is eroding the surface. There is no grit bin either.
