The drain is blocked problem

Reported in the The drain is blocked category by Gloucestershire County Council at 10:46, Friday 17 January 2025

FixMyStreet ref: 6993739.

Dear Sirs,

I have been reporting this drain as an issue for a few months now. The reply I get stating below that the County Council is responsible for clearing drains at least once a year does NOT happen. I have lived at this address for 12 years and the ONLY time this drain was ever cleared was when I reported it. In all those 12 years this drain has NEVER been routinely checked and infact is nearly always blocked.

This is causing a bigger issue now in that the delivery companies are complaining AND the Refuse Collection was refused because the driver stated he would have wet feet all day and that he would therefore not be taking my bin.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
