Bad wear between tarmac strips
Reported in the Roads/highways category by Michael Wilson at 16:10, Fri 2 October 2015
Sent to Ards and North Down Borough Council and TransportNI 6 minutes later
The wear between strips of Tarmac in the Belfast bound lane forces bikes to zig-zag to retain control. There is usually heavy traffic in this street and lines of cars parked along it. In wet weather particularly this could cause a collision due to loss of grip, amplified by the possible need to avoid car doors being opened. The roads service were notified of this situation about a year ago through the office of the local MLA but deemed the road surface 'fit for purpose'. The road is much worse now.

Roads Service reponded promptly to the report, but their reply was that the road was "fit for purpose" This didn't take account of the risks to two-wheeled road users. The local MLA was also informed and agreed about the severity of the problem and has been lobbying the Roads (?) Minister for action to be taken. No response has been received from the Roads Service when it was pointed out to them that they could probably be held accountable should there be an accident due to the road condition that they had been warned about on two separate occasions.

The road continues to deteriorate, and as at this time (30/11/2015) no remedial action has taken place.
