Traffic light timing fault

Reported via desktop in the Traffic lights category anonymously at 07:39, Thursday 9 January 2025

Sent to Milton Keynes Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6954413.

For the last few weeks, there has been a problem with the traffic light timing on Northfield Roundabout. There is either a fault or they have been poorly reconfigured.

The issue is that the current timings are causing stationary traffic to build up on the roundabout across the exits, preventing traffic with a green signal from proceeding. This is different to the behaviour to date, where the timings allowed traffic on the roundabout to clear before releasing the next set of traffic.

The impact of this is that it is causing huge congestion on the roundabout approaches. In the morning peak, it is causing traffic to build up to the point where the queue starts on the M1 carriageways, causing a safety issue.

The capacity of this junction has been severely reduced as a result, and is causing huge queues that were not previously there on all approaches. If there is a fault, I would suggest that switching the traffic lights off completely in the interim would alleviate the congestion issues. Otherwise, they need reconfiguring to the previous configuration.
