Pedestrain Crossing

Reported anonymously at 13:02, Thu 13 August 2009

Sent to Herefordshire Council 3 minutes later

The light controlled pedestrian crossing in Eign Road is not at all pedestrian friendly (or traffic friendly for that matter). It should be a zebra crossing. The phasing is totally wrong for pedestrians trying to cross the road and many pedestrians take risks because of this. There is far too much time in between green lights for the pedestrian and when they are green it is for a very short time. I witness daily, people of all ages running to try and reach the crossing before the light changes back to red (for the pedestrian) and if they miss it, they take risks crossing the road in between the long phases before the lights are active again for the pedestrian. It is frustrating because the traffic is going quite slowly along this stretch and I'm sure that many motorists would stop if it were a zebra crossing.

  • I regularly see cars turning right out of the Horse and Groom carpark and going straight through the red lights. They obviously don't notice them, but if it were a proper zebra crossing, the black and white stripes and the flashing beacons would be more noticable and especially if it was slightly raised. Also, I regularly see people running in between vehicles to cross in the very short space of time that the lights are green for pedestrians, because they know that it will be a long time before the lights become active for pedestrians again.
