Since moving to my residence in September 2023, litter and fly tipping has been a constant nuisance at the section of Shields Road between St Andrews Drive and McCulloch Street. The new build flats at 420/422 Shields Road are particularly affected. All litter from this area, gets blown into our communal grounds at the entrance to our buildings. Despite many residents, litter picking periodically, the issue is so substantial that the area gets polluted again within a few days. This is an environmental issue that affects residents and their children (who play in the area). Our mental well being as well as health is being compromised. We feel we are entitled to live in a clean, safe and attractive environment and not be embarrassed with the eye sore of the litter and worry about the increase of the rat population - which is well documented in the area. I believe the shops and takeaways (in this area) are partially responsible by leaving rubbish outside of their properties. Additionally, their clients who throw their litter out of cars and onto the street. The Salvation Army clothing collection point attracts fly tippers as well as the multi-occupied property on Shields Road who often leave domestic refuse on the pavement, outside of their building.
