Tree touching the building
Reported via mobile in the Tree Requires Pruning category anonymously at 10:44, Sun 29 December 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6906612.
The tree outside the British Heart Foundation is in urgent need of being pruned as it is now touching the building.
The tree has not been pruned in a very long time.
This will cause a risk to public safety if it damages the building and causes debris to fall to the ground.
The tree is causing a nuisance then sheafing leaves as they are landing on the flat room, then causing damage to the roof if now cleared away.
The tree is very large and could well be causing further damage to the building from underground.
Corrective action is needed.

Bromley will only undertake works to a tree for an identified health & safety or highway obstruction issue. Please note that as outlined in our Tree Management Strategy Trees – London Borough of Bromley
Council will not prune or remove trees in relation to the following: • Branches overhanging property boundaries or buildings • Lack of light • Where a tree is thought be too tall, large, or old • Interference with solar panels or satellite, TV, or other media reception • Branches and/or limbs in physical contact with telephone wires or power wires • Leaf fall • Fruit fall • Shedding of small twigs. Nor will we remove leaf and branch debris at the base of a tree which serves to protect roots and protects the tree from lawn mowers, strimmers and dogs • Problems associated with pollen • Excreta caused by insects or birds • Obstruction of the view from house windows, gardens, balconies etc
The situation will be reviewed cyclically as part of our programme of tree condition surveys and safety inspections.
State changed to: No further action

This tree is touching the building and this needs to be resolved.
The council need to act as this could damage the building and become a health and safety issue.
When was this last checked? Do we need to involve our local MP to get the council to resolve this?

Not sure how this can be as the tree is right at a bus stop, and so no parked cars.
Have you got the right tree?

Again, how can this be then the area involved is next to a double bus stop. Are you suggesting that cars are parked in the bus stop?
Have you issued fines to these cars?

It’s now more than a month from you last provided an update and nothing has happened.
The leafs are dropping off the tree when they should not be and you can snap a branch off with your hand.
This tree is clearly a sock tree and needs URGENT attention.

Thank you for the up date, traffic management has been booked in, the works will be completed in the next two months.

If traffic management has been booked then you must know the date? If not then how can you claim the next 2 months?
If you have a date then please provide it.
If it’s not for another 2 month then that would mean the issue is ongoing for 9 months.
Not very acceptable.

Thank you for the comment, we have multiple days that the traffic management is available, there is high priority works that need resolving before we can attend to the tree. This is why I can not give a exact date, they will attend in due course.

Ok, let’s try this a different way - once traffic management is in place, what work will be done to the tree.
A, someone simply look at it and do nothing further B, someone will look at it and reduce the size of it C, someone will arrive to cut the tree down
I’m not sure how I got to this point but think my question (many time over) has been really clear.

Also, you have now said traffic management is booked for the 28th when other responses said the 27th.
So is it the 28th now and what option below will happen?
A, someone simply look at it and do nothing further
B, someone will look at it and reduce the size of it
C, someone will arrive to cut the tree down
Thanks in advance for a direct answer

For the record, this matter has now finally been resolved on 27 August 2025 after eight months of repeated reports, contradictions, and delays.
The tree was pruned significantly, as shown in the attached after photo. This outcome demonstrates that the Council’s earlier claim that no action was required was plainly wrong.
The delay caused unnecessary nuisance to residents, with blocked light, falling debris, and risk to buildings.
This case highlights a wider pattern of Bromley Council only taking action after prolonged resident pressure, which is unsustainable and unfair on taxpayers.
