Hedge/trees overhanging the lane and soil/spoil dumped on verge.

Reported via mobile in the Trees category anonymously at 15:51, Wed 11 December 2024

Sent to Mid Suffolk District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6850115.

In sum, the roadside hedge has been allowed to encroach the highway via poor landowner maintenance and ditch work (the latter leaving piles of spoil on the verges). The recent high winds have also pushed the hedge into the road. This is now forcing traffic onto the opposite side of the highway, which is causing the opposing verge to collapse into the ditch. That creates a hazard we feel. The hedge needs to be properly cut back to effect a quick solution.

Updates

  • The landowner 'responsible' for the hedge running East along Wilby lane from 'Hall Cottages' at IP21 5LU for >1000 meters towards Laxfiied, has not cut this back. This is beginning to encroach into the road and in time (by the summer) will cause issues with traffic and ensuing damage to the verge/ditch opposite that hedge/tree line - as cars, lorries and tractors avoid striking the branches etc. The landowner or occupier (at Wilby Hall?) has also not cleared spoil dumped on the verge as originally reported.
