URGENT - Two riverside trees threatened with felling
Reported via desktop in the Trees category by Stella Cross at 22:09, Sun 8 December 2024
Sent to Leeds City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6836182.
It is a very, very urgent issue that tree preservation orders are put on the oak and the nearby tulip tree, certainly by the end of the business day on Tuesday 10 December. A letter from local people was been received by Leeds City Council's highest legal officer on Friday 6 December. No adequate consultation with local residents regarding the issues around the planned tree felling and the repair of the nearby bridge has been carried out.

Two trees, including a 180 year old oak, in Tittybottle Park in Otley, West Yorkshire, are due to be felled by Leeds City Council at any point from today (6 Jan. 2025) onwards. The community is objecting to this illogical felling and has so far had no indication from the Council that they have found an alternative strategy to mend the bridge nearby. They say they want to fell the trees to make way for a crane to put in place a temporary bridge for pedestrians while the work is done - ignoring other options they have such as closing one land of traffic while the work is done in order to save the heritage trees on the riverbank.
