Tarmac split by tree roots
Reported via mobile in the Other Road Issues category anonymously at 10:15, Sat 7 December 2024
Sent to Hampshire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6830375.
We have several areas in our single track cul-de-sac where the roots from Scots Pine trees have pushed through the surface and split the tarmac. Because we have a huge amount of debris falling into the road from these trees it is often not possible to see where the splits in the tarmac are situated. Owing to the pavement being in such a poor state we have to walk in the road. Therefore the split tarmac is posing a tripping hazard which can only get worse. Our pavement needs attention as it was only half fixed by the council several years back with an assurance that it would be completed very soon. It has not been dealt with and we have weeds, moss, loose tarmac and cracks which also proving a tripping hazard. Please can these problems be attended to as soon as possible and please can the street be swept on a more regular basis because the debris causes the road to flood in places as the water cannot reach our one and only drain at the end of the cul-de-sac. Thank you

Good Afternoon, I apologise. I didn't intentionally send the message anonymously my name is Daphne Dear and I live at 2, Fairdown Close, SO230JU. Can I just add that the pavement is in a very poor state of repair and it would be very helpful if it can be improved so that we can use it

The problem we had with tree roots splitting the tarmac in our cul-de-sac and which I reported early in 2024 I notice has had the status changed by the council ,to fixed. This is not the case. No one has been near for over 18 months to look at the problem and when they did come here, they did nothing more than look!. However three men turned up this morning saying they had come to clean the pavement - which has so many weeds growing out of it and so much debris littering it that anyone in an electric wheelchair or using a zimmer frame, pushing a pushchair or simply trying to walk on it would be in trouble-.. The three men left an hour and a half later having cleaned about 20 yds out of the 150 yds. of pavement. I estimate that if they return another half a dozen times and work at the same speed as they did today with 18 month intervals between their visits, the entire pavement will have been cleaned up by 2030 by which time they will need to start all over again. Work in progress?
