Tree roots causing demosnstrated danger to pedestrians
Reported via desktop in the Street Services category by Mr Howard Joseph Weiss at 17:10, Sun 1 December 2024
Sent to Bromley Council 3 months, 2 weeks, 3 days, 20 hours, 56 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 6806477.
None of these matters are related to the council's overview that declines action. This lime tree has been reported recently. These points are new. Due to extensive tree root activity there is a hazardous strectch of sunken pavement - so much so a pensioner slipped over late last month and had two breaks to her wrist. Action is being considered. The tree has also caused damage to the street fronting wall which has had to be repaired. May I suggest a major reduction or removal in keeping with a street, as aginst forest, tree species.

Bromley's Highways section has visited this site and said no footway works needed. This tree is not going to be pruned at the moment and has been inspected. Thank you

This tree has been inspected and is not considered to require remedial works at this time. Bromley will only undertake works to a tree for an identified health & safety or highway obstruction issue. The situation will be reviewed cyclically and any required action will be addressed within a future works programme.

Thank you for your comments. Leaf/fruit fall is part of the tree’s natural yearly cycle, the consequence of which can be dealt with by Street Cleansing (Tel: 0208 313 4557) that have been informed of your comments regarding the fallen leaves.
The falling of fruit and leaves happens over a relatively short period during the course of a year and any temporary inconvenience has to be balanced against the benefits the trees bring to an urban environment.
Therefore on this occasion the Borough will not be able to undertake the works that you request of us.
