Countryside vandalism
Reported via desktop anonymously at 15:06, Tue 19 November 2024
Sent to Norfolk County Council and South Norfolk District Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6760638.
For the past few months, 'someone' has been tearing down hedgerows, destroying wildlife habitats and chopping down saplings along the restricted byway that runs alongside the RC church down to Diss Sports Field. The path is used by children and young adults to reach the Sports Field/Skate Park, and by many ramblers and dog walkers. Whoever is recklessly cutting down saplings, is putting lives in danger. If someone were to trip or fall from their bike onto one of these, they could be impaled and seriously injured! The local and Norfolk Council's have denied carrying out the clearance, so who is doing it?? There is also a lot of building and garden waste dumped along the path.

So no-one thinks there's a problem? Unbelievable. These 18" potentially deadly stakes sticking up on either side of the path "does not meet your criteria?" Well perhaps when a member of the public falls and impales themselves on one of these stakes, you might do something about it?
New Status: No action has been taken at this time but we will continue to monitor the problem -We have assessed that the defect does not currently meet our intervention criteria. We will continue to monitor as part of normal scheduled inspections.
Any additional comments the Countryside Access Officer has made relating to this enquiry will be displayed below: We are not aware of who is carrying out the work, but would assume it is the landowner as they are responsible for ensuring that their boundary vegetation does not overhang/encroach onto the public highway. The section of restricted byway from the junction of Diss Footpath 26 & Roydon FP7, to the junction of Diss FP24 was walked recently and no issue was found. The matter of the dumping of building and garden material comes under the remit of the South Norfolk Council so you would need to report this to them.
