Insufficient time for cyclists to cross bridge

Reported via mobile in the Green or amber traffic light is not working category by Tim Stott at 19:02, Saturday 2 November 2024

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6687725.

When crossing the old Wye bridge from Chepstow into Gloucestershrie, cyclists going through a green light do not have enough time to reach the lights on the other side of the bridge before they turn green. Vehicles from the Glos. side, see their green light, approach the narrow bridge and then show aggression towards cyclists they find there: honking horn, shouting and leaving insufficient space to pass.

I have witnessed this as a cyclist on several occasions, including while cycling with child passengers. I was cycling at a reasonable speed and passing the light on the Chepstow side only a few seconds after it had turned green.

Having seen drivers' reactions, I think there is a danger to cyclists and other legitimate vulnerable road users who are simply following the rules of the road.
