Blocked drain on corner of Chapel Lane and Brook St Sutton Courtenay
Reported via desktop in the Blocked Drain / Gully category anonymously at 17:19, Thu 24 October 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6655134.
The drain is blocked ( solid) with leaves, mud etc. During last week's rain, there was some flooding on the road which remained for several days. It has now drained away but the drain needs to be cleared before more rain arrives given this is an area vulnerable to flooding and which has flooded regularly in the past.

Thames Water ( via Cappagh) are currently working on the sewers in Brook Street immediately in the vicinity of this blocked gully but they tell me that they have no mandate to clear the gully. They have a suitable machine on site right beside the blocked gully and expect to be here for "a few more days" . Please could someone authorise this work?

This issue has been reported repeatedly - the gulley needs clearing out. Thames Water have completed their sewer (unrelated work) and their team said this gulley needs a gulley sucker - WHICH THEY DID NOT HAVE - and were part of a different team, as this is surface water not foul.

The corner of Chapel Lane and Brook Street is flooded again following rain last night. This drain needs to be cleared: it is now over 3 months since I reported it and others have done so since. The Ginge Brook, just around the corner on Brook Street often floods onto Brook Street ( The EA once again sent out food alerts over the weekend) and this blocked drain which could easily be cleared is adding to the combined flood risk. The current flooding on the road is also making it difficult for vehicles to exit Chapel Lane.

This drain has still not been cleared despite repeated reports by myself and others since October 2024. It is flooded again this morning and it is still raining (currently looks similar to the last photos I submitted in January). Given recent historic problems of the Ginge Brook flooding on to Brook Street this is adding to the risk of property flooding in the area. It is unacceptable that this problem which could be fixed so easily is repeatedly being ignored.
