Hole in road exposing cables
Reported in the Potholes category by A. Atkinson at 16:07, Sun 19 July 2009
Sent to North Yorkshire County Council 2 minutes later
A long deep pothole in the centre of the road exactly at the function of Yorkersgate and Railway Street.
Electricity cables exposed.
These are probably connecting sensors to nearby traffic lights.
Locals have long complained of erratic traffic light operation.
The hole has been there for many months and getting worse.
Complaint to the local paper [twice] was gretted with a yawn. The Council blamed the Highways Authority. So did the Police. Highways blamed the council.
The hole is long, deep and narrow, dangerous to cycles and motorbikes.
A couple of days after emailng you I noticed the holes had been partly and badly cosmetically "fixed". I reported this to you and had a phobe call from the council engineer who had tried to fix it. The cables are too near the surface and impossible to cover over until they are relaid buried deeper. Apparently this is fault of the 'traffic light people'. No proper fix will be made until the whole road is resurfaced in due course'.
As this junction is the busiest in the town, the council will not sanction the cost until then.

2 days after I first contacted you, a bodge was made to one part, which lasted less than a day.
Further work is being delayed as 'not worth the disturbance' pending extensive road works some time in the dim and distant.
I was told this by the man who did the bodging.
