Vehicles blocking area that pedestrians use

Reported via desktop in the The kerb is damaged/missing category anonymously at 13:09, Mon 14 October 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6612868.

Good morning, I am the Police Community Support Officer for Hempsted. New houses have been built along Secunda Way in Hempsted and there is what appears to be a layby outside the front of these properties. This is the same width as the footpath and just wide enough for vehicles to park, leaving no space for pedestrians to pass. This used to be the access to the building site. Vehicles are parking in this area, completely blocking the pavement and forcing pedestrians to walk into the road where vehicles are coming off a very busy one way system.

While a decision is waiting to be made about when the footpath will be completed along that stretch of Secunda Way, could I ask that metal barriers are put along the length of it to prevent cars from parking there please? In doing so we will ensure the safety of those pedestrians that regularly use the footpath.

Vehicles appear to be parking there at weekends and evenings. I have been along there this morning and there were no vehicles present, however, I have been sent photos of vehicles in situ and pedestrians walking in the road. Checks on vehicle registration numbers that have been supplied to me so far show they are not local keepers.

Thank you for your help.
