Dangerous broken windows

Reported by Bruce Piggott at 17:57, Thu 9 July 2015

Sent to East Hertfordshire District Council and Hertfordshire County Council 2 minutes later

Two broken windows at the front of the Post Office in Fore Street have not been repaired for over a year. Jagged edges are in easy reach.

Updates

  • It is the responabilty of the renters of the Post Office to repair the windows. Not the council. The manager of the Post Office is refusing to repair the windows because he says vandalism will just repeat and the cost of replacing the windows is £450 each. Got a quote from Hertford Glass for under £200 each. So, stalemate!

  • This is very frustrating. Everyone is in denial. The manager of the Post Office is responsabel for replacing the windows but won't because of the cost and the fear of repeat vandalasim. The council won't privide CCTV which could solve the problem. The police can't provide extra survalance. The owners of the property (Primico) say the renters are responsable. So, stalemate!!!

  • The manager of the Post Office wont pay to repair the broken windows because he says they will only be broken again by vandals. So these windows have remained broken for nearly two years!

  • This window problem is complicated. The council are not directly responsible for the repair. The people who rent the building are. They won't repair the window because they say they will only be broken again by vandals! The council do have responsabilty to ensure that a building in a public place is safe. Because of this Fix My Street report he renters have boarded up the windows in a maner which is safer than than the cardboard they used before. So it is stalemate!!!
