Absolutely disgraceful management of a highway!!!

Reported via iOS in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 22:26, Fri 4 October 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6553549.

This road has been reported for at least 3 years that it needs proper repair, and not just a lame attempt. I and many others have reported this stretch of the last few years, for it to be totally ignored. Last year after several reports you cleared the ditch and rebuilt the verges, which helped hold back rain water, and give it some where to go, and put a couple of bump signs up… BUT the road surface has been full of pot holes and surface failures due to rain water. And this summer you managed to repair 1, yes 1! Pothole. This road is now going to flood and fail even more due to the mismanagement of the issue. This road is not just a track that a couple of vehicles use daily it is a busy single track road that has many cars and tractors using it. I realise there is a slope and rain water from fields goes down hill, but there is surely an easy way to divert that rain water into gully in the verge that keeps it off the road, and run it down the side of the road down to the stream???? Surely a simple solution, this will make scraping up the top surface easy and then a stretch of tarmac from top to bottom will be easy to lay, and due to it being a whole stretch there won’t be any areas that can be breached by rainwater, thus preventing new potholes? There have been cars coming up and down the hill on the wrong side of the carriageway to miss the terrible surface, and causing oncoming vehicles to brake dramatically due to the fact! So this is also a road safety issue!

  • There are 2 live reports currently. For this road and this 75m area of road. And NOTHING has been done apart from investigating.. this road is extremely dangerous, due to very large potholes totally degraded road surface, that is even very uncomfortable in a 4x4, water is freely running down the road, this was made even more dangerous during the heavy frost. Where the hill was sheet ice, and vehicles heading down the hill could easily hit on coming traffic. The other issue with the road is that due to the very poor standard, and dangerous nature due to lake of repair you are forcing more and more commuting traffic through the small village of Horley which with narrow lanes and residents parking isn’t suitable for large amounts of commuting traffic. The whole 75m stretch requires completely resurfacing, and a drainage pipe across the road from where the water is sourcing, down to the river. Very similar to what you did by Wroxton mill last summer, and which has totally fixed the long running issue. Please get this sorted for everyone who is being forced to drive down here, is is causing issues on drivers vehicles that should not be happening due to everyday road use!

  • This is seriously dangerous.

  • This is the state of the road this morning! Half the carriageway has now disintegrated to mud! On the hill, there have been several days this week where the slope has been Ice! Due to the water running down it! The problem seems to start further up where the water starts by coming up in the middle of the carriageway, and runs down to the stream at the bottom. Surely diverting the water down the side of the carriageway in a gully will sort the issue for good?? Soon this road will be completely impassible.
