Drain not functional

Reported via mobile anonymously at 15:39, Friday 4 October 2024

Sent to Cherwell District Council and Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6552404.

Good Afternoon

We have complained numerous times (myself and my daughter in law) regarding the non functional drain outside my house, which has now caused serious flooding.

In 2020 (approximately) we had reported this issue and it was inspected. The staff who inspected at the time advised us that the drain does not work. My daughter in law also recently complained and you have since closed the investigation saying it is now fixed. However, during the visit yesterday your staff (OPC) again advised us that the drain does not work. You have cleaned the silt out of this drain numerous times which has no effect because the actual being non functional drain is the issue.

Our closest drain is now 150 meters away, uphill. Your lack of interest in getting to the bottom of this issue has now resulted in my house being flooded severely. I am now living in a hotel with my two children and my house will not be fixed for 6 months to a year. The house now has to be rebuilt due to the recent floods caused by the drains not working.

You continue to tell us that you’re taking action but every member of staff that has come to investigate the issue advises us otherwise. Similarly the flood we have experienced (images attached) speak for themselves with regards to how inefficient the drainage network is around our house.

Each time my daughter in law or I make these complaints you simply send someone to clean the silt out of the drain which is not effective. Please take this matter seriously and investigate the root cause of this problem rather than simply coming to clean it again.
