Barriers have been around this merry-go-round for months now. The barriers themselves are damaged, with one of the in-fill bars having broken away leaving a sharp edge on which children could injure themselves. The barriers are not joined together in one place, leaving protruding metal bars. Some infill bars are missing on the barriers and I saw a small child climb through the barrier onto the broken merry-go-round this afternoon. This is a busy and popular park frequented by children who run around. It is entirely foreseeable that they could snag clothing on these protruding metal bars and/or injure themselves. Whilst I appreciate cost savings are needed, surely it would safer and more economical to remove the play equipment until such a time budgets allow for it to be fixed or replaced. The barriers are not preventing children from accessing and climbing on the broken equipment, and the barriers themselves simply invite children to climb them.
