Road dangerously narrowed
Reported via mobile in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 12:37, Wed 11 September 2024
Sent to Luton Borough Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6461152.
The new Butterfield Green Road enhancements were supposed to have verge protection posts and a passing bay on this single track blind bend to improve safety and stop verge parking. The posts have been installed but the vitally important passing bay has not been. I have been advised the bay could be installed due to high voltage cables. This stretch of road is now extremely dangerous as there is now nowhere for two passing vehicles to pass when they meet on the blind bend. Those in charge need to address the issue or return the road to its original state until such time as it can be redesigned, Failing to act will put road users at unnecessary risk,

Still not addressed inspite of various communications with council and councillors. It beggars belief that the council have failed to comply with their own approved building plans.

Still a hazardous road with the width restriction posts. Council claiming it will be addressed shortly. Plus the selfish parking in the cemetery extension even though it has only limited parking for disabled means there is significantly increased traffic now. Well done Luton Council for being greedy and selfish. You get your grave income which may help clear your huge debt. Meanwhile residents grow to detest your very existence. Nice one.

In spite of all the promises from the council that this will be addressed soon nothing has happened after many many months. May be even over a year. This is dangerous and someone will have a head on collision there before long as the traffic increases as people continue to die. Mark my words. Why the council have not removed the posts in the meantime is beyond me. Negligence.

The council have now said over one year later that they are not going to put in the approved plan passing bay for site and structural reasons. I think that translates as cost is too high. But don’t worry as a road safety audit said it was all safe and fine - although only council are allowed to see the report saying the road is safe. If you have an accident here refer your insurers to the council as I am sure they would be interested in how the approved plan for safety was changed.
