The timing of the traffic lights on Botley Road/Ferry Hinksey Road is up-the-creek causing traffic to build up on the Botley Road.

Reported via mobile in the Current Roadworks - live information category anonymously at 09:47, Thursday 5 September 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6438587.

We need to get to our offices in Kings Meadow, Ferry Hinksey Road OX2 0DP and these traffic light timings are causing us long delays.

Council ref: ENQ241015856

  • This is still an issue and getting worse. The queue is all the way back to McDonalds. The sequence seems to be 15 seconds green, 65 seconds red.

  • The lights seem to be letting many cars through which are coming out of the city (from Osney direction), but only a few going into the and to Osney Mead (it took me 35 mins from Seacourt this morning). At the other end of the day, they only let a few off of Osney Mead, causing delays down Ferry Hinksey Road. It needs manual operation or a change to the automatic.

  • This was an issue even at 09:45 this morning. Traffic heading towards the city centre was queued back to Macdonalds again. In the 18 months since the Botley Road was closed, this has not been an issue until 2 weeks ago...what changed? The majority of traffic is trying to get down Ferry Hinksey Road in the morning and back out in the evenings; can the phasing not reflect this? Also, given how few cars turn from Ferry Hinksey Road towards the City Centre, could the core flow allow traffic into and out of FHR simultaneously (with signage to 'give way' if you do want to turn from FHR towards the city centre?). This would alleviate the queues immediately. Just a thought.
