Cassilis Road street sign location anomaly

Reported in the Street nameplates category anonymously at 22:00, Tue 2 June 2015

Sent to Tower Hamlets Borough Council 5 minutes later. FixMyStreet ref: 642692.

According to LBTH's own street maps, Cassilis Road joins Lightermans Road at the building line of the Canary Central estate (approximately where the white van is in the accompanying picture). That means that the Cassilis Road street sign shown in the picture is in the wrong place, because it is actually in Lightermans Road, instead of being at the start of Cassilis Road.

This anomaly could be corrected by re-positioning the existing Cassilis Road street sign to where Cassilis Road actually starts.

A better solution would be to adjust the boundary between Cassilis Road and Lightermans Road to occur at the logical point, as indicated by the road markings. In other words, Cassilis Road would extend up to the physical road junction indicated by the dashed white lines, which is where most people would assume Cassilis Road starts anyway. Then the existing Cassilis Road street sign would be in the correct place, at the start of Cassilis Road. Although it might still be worth re-positioning it to where the Lightermans Road street sign is, to make it easier to see when approaching Cassilis Road from Mastmaker Road.

An even better solution would be to extend Cassilis Road by naming it up to the road junction, as above, and to also extend Mastmaker Road by naming it to replace the remainder of Lightermans Road. In other words, Mastmaker Road would run from Marsh Wall through to Millharbour, and the name Lightermans Road would disappear. This would have the benefit of not needing to provide street name signs at the boundary of Mastmaker Road and Lightermans Road. If this was done, the two Mastmaker Road street signs at this junction could be re-positioned to the ends of the extended Mastmaker Road, which would also resolve the misspelled Mastmaker Road street sign at the Marsh Wall end and the missing street sign at the Millharbour end.

Could the Tower Hamlets Street Naming officer please consider my suggestions to resolve this anomaly and implement whichever is assessed as the best solution.
