Blocked drain on the Wiltshire Bridge on the B4014

Reported via mobile in the The drain is blocked category anonymously at 10:47, Saturday 31 August 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Gloucestershire County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6419510.

Hi there. There are 3 drains on the Wiltshire Bridge on the B4014 as you leave Tetbury in the direction of the hospital and Malmesbury. I have unblocked 2 but the remaining third is silted right up to the drain cover with straw, weeds, mud and gravel. I suspect the cover will need lifting in order to extract the contents. Please see my photos which should help identify the location and explain the problem. I appreciate the drains are there to ensure water is diverted away and doesn’t damage the bridge - which is a listed building - but part of the issue is the amount of straw and build up of mud and gravel along that side of the bridge which then gets into the drain and blocks it. Many thanks.

Updates

  • Thank you for reporting a drainage or flooding issue.

We will investigate the issue. If additional clearance work is needed, the local highways team will prioritise the most urgent reports. Where possible, maintenance tasks will be grouped together in a schedule for efficiency.

Sometimes during periods of heavy rain, even a clear gully can be overwhelmed. Usually the water will drain away within an hour.

Every gully or drain the county council is responsible for is cleared at least once each year. Some drains in problem areas are cleared more frequently. You can find out more, including the gully emptying schedule on our website by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/highways/roads/road-maintenance

If your property is at risk of flooding please see the Flood Guide for advice and support by visiting www.gloucestershire.gov.uk/planning-and-environment/flood-risk-management/flooding-information/flood-guide

If you are driving: please never ignore road closures or enter flood water. This could put you or others in danger and invalidate your insurance.

We will provide updates about this report. Thank you again for taking the time to report this issue.
