1 lane of dual carriageway unnecessarily blocked for 1 mile - big congestion

Reported via desktop in the Roads/highways category anonymously at 00:04, Sunday 1 September 2024

Sent to West Sussex County Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6419475.

The Turn right dedicated lane at Sompting traffic lights 🚦 A27 Eastbound is closed (I assume due roadworks past that junction) - this could’ve been achieved without blocking off the entire o/s Lane of the dual carriageway, which is entirely unnecessary & causing a mile tail back … may be more in high peak times. I’ve travelled this road for years and never seen a diversion for this reason, implemented in such a crass manner - it’s clearly over the top as previously at this & the Shoreham traffic lights (before & during recent road restructure) just closing the right turn off lane with adequate advance signing has been sufficient & not caused accidents…
