Deep drops at side of roads,

Reported via desktop in the Roads and Carriageways category anonymously at 15:41, Thu 15 August 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6361059.

The road does not meet the verge and there are drops all the way a long, some as deep as 1 foot ! there was a serious accident last week, a car ended up in the field and police were called. The road is dangerous and needs urgent attention before someone is killed - lorries push cars off the road an into the gully's due to the lorries taking up both lanes.

  • This issue is getting worse daily, not helped by the fact that this is signed as an HGV route - when a much safer route for HGVs is via the Rowstock roundabout. This is a serious or fatal accident waiting to happen and needs urgent action by OCC Highways.

  • I do not choose to be anonymous. This road is a Death Trap particularly in the early evening when employees at RAL are turning out. Last night driving South over the hill brow a Stream of Cars were coming towards me with headlights on. Given they are unable to identify their nearside curve oncoming drivers (as I) are forced to keep tight Left. Last night this resulted in my entering a Long Deep Rut (as first complainant) with consequence of front tyre blowout and (probably) Damaged Rim. What is wrong with Council with this road??! Its now major road linking heavy traffic to A34 and large industrial (Science) Area. There are no visible White Lines or cats eyes either Centre or to sides and on South side of Brow loads of deep gullies. The only night time guide when oncoming traffic is about is to AIM to left of the headlights of others and pray! What I find particularly irritating is that there have already been several attempts to improve a clearly recognised problem but the OBVIOUS of clear markings has been completely ignored.

  • I actively avoid using this road on my daily commute, adding ten minutes to my journey rather than drive down this death trap. One day someone will die here and it will be on the council's conscience.
