Path not big enough for walkers and cyclists

Reported via mobile anonymously at 05:37, Tuesday 13 August 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and West Oxfordshire District Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6348322.

Path is not big enough for both walkers and cyclists. The hedgerow is over grown and if a cyclist is using the path I have either had to step into the road or I to the over grown hedge row so they can pass. If the hedge row can be cut back or mowed a strip I could step onto that rather than into bambles/thistles etc or road.

  • I have reported this separately many weeks ago and it's now worse with some plants almost entirely across the path. As a result, whilst cycling on it i fell into the road. Fortunately nothing was coming. I frequently now have to jump my bike into the road to avoid pedestrians. I'm trying to promote cycling into work locally and my audit of 80 people showed 80% felt unsafe due to road / cyclepath not fit for purpose. It is wider but the verge (at ground level) and plants need cutting back ..https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/ media/ 5ffa1f96d3bf7f65d9e35825/ cycle-infrastructure-design-ltn-1-20.pdf See 5.5.3 The minimum width should be THREE METRES for pedestrians and bikes.
