Dip in middle of road - early sink hole sign??
Reported via mobile in the Road Defect category anonymously at 01:02, Fri 9 August 2024 using FixMyStreet Pro
Sent to Bromley Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6334461.
There is a significant dip in the road that is not a pothole but rather a sinking of the highway it’s probably been there 5-7 days. Perhaps this could indicate something has collapsed below the surface of the road.
Approximately outside no 4 The Grove.

I have called Thames water to check on progress of this problem, and they have confirmed that their engineers have inspected this dip in the road and in their opinion it is not their responsibility.
Please can you investigate further and if necessary liaise with Thames water to get the problem fixed. Thank you

This is a danger to traffic and thereby pedestrians as it is easy for someone to lose control of their vehicle as the hole is deep and difficult to see. What does due course mean? Months/years? Do you have an estimate? Many thanks

Thank you for redirecting me to your previous answer, Which I’ve clearly read, but “in due course” gives no indication of actual timescale. Your latest response is much more helpful – thank you.

Having examined the hole since it was opened up, this sinkhole appears to have resulted from the partial collapse of a rather large brick dome structure beneath the road. Could you confirm what this structure is and whether it has any historical significance? It looks like an old ice house or something similar, perhaps connected to the old Wickham House. If so, are you taking steps to preserve it?
