NCN 7/75 M8 bridge diversion, hopeless signage and not DDA compliant
Reported via desktop anonymously at 12:35, Sun 4 August 2024
Sent to Glasgow City Council less than a minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6313681.
Two foot/cycle bridges over the M8 are currently closed for refurbishment. One of them carries the key national and local cycle routes NCN7 and 75.
The signage for the diverted routes is completely useless - too few signs, in the wrong places, referring only to 'foot'bridge diversion - and three of the four access ramps have steps in them, difficult for some people cycling and not DDA compliant.
The work is planned to take half a year, the alternatives need to be properly signed.
The council supposedly has requirements for signing foot/cyclepath diversions, though a bit of thoughtfulness and courtesy from those responsible would work wonders.
Updates
-
Still no signage for people wishing to rejoin NCN7 from either direction. And no maps showing how the diversion bridges relate to any routes. Or warnings that the diversion bridges have stepped ramps.

Still open, via questionnaire -
Contractors and the local councillors have all been contacted directly - despite Glasgow's claims to be encouraging active travel none of them appears to see that the absence of info for people trying to use NCN 7/73 is a problem. They couldn't manage their way out of a wet paper bag.
