Unauthorised crossing

Reported via desktop anonymously at 08:28, Tue 30 July 2024

Sent to Oxfordshire County Council and South Oxfordshire District Council 1 minute later. FixMyStreet ref: 6291940.

People from the new build (Faraday street , Herschel street etc) have cut through the bushes and damaged a fence to enable them to walk straight out onto the the A4130 rather than using the crossing 100m down the road. This is particularly dangerous at night when people can just suddenly appear from the bushes.. It has to be said it is a certain type of person.

Council ref: ENQ241012702

  • This is not an unauthorised crossing (whatever that is, there are no laws concerning crossing roads without using pedestrian crossings in the UK) but as can be seen from the Google satellite photos this crossing has existed long before the new estate was built and is what used to be Cow Lane before the A4130 ring road was built. Also the “crossing 100m down the road” you refer to is a 1/4 of a mile and a 5 minute walk along the A4130 past the Mersey Way roundabout where there is a set of traffic light controlled crossing. Just because the person who posted this issue is unable to cross a road safely, does not mean other people cannot. People living in this end of the new estate don’t need to take a 10 minute detour just to cross a road, thanks!
